Anatomia visceral comparada de seis espécies de Amphisbaenidae (Squamata: Amphisbaenia) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Navega-Gonçalves,Maria Eliana C..
Visceral anatomy of amphisbaenids Amphisbaena vermicularis Wagler, 1824; Anops kingii Bell, 1833; Aulura anomala Barbour, 1914; Bronia bedai Vanzolini, 1991; Cercolophia cuiabana Strüssmann & Carvalho, 2001, and Leposternon microcephalum Wagler, 1824 were comparatively described and the size and the position of the organs in the pleuroperitoneal cavity was established in relation to the ventral scutellation. The main results were: the right lung presents different degrees of size reduction compared to the left lung, being conspicuous only in A. anomala, and L. microcephalum; the limit between small and large intestines is clear due to the presence of a caecum; the right lobe of the liver is larger than the left one, but its length varies within the...

Renal involvement in canine leishmaniasis: a morphological and immunohistochemical study Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Soares,M.J.V.; Moraes,J.R.E.; Moraes,F.R..
IgG and IgM deposits in kidneys of dogs with visceral leishmaniasis (VL) were studied in 25 symptomatic dogs (case) and 15 asymptomatic dogs (control) by an immunohistochemical method. All tested dogs were positive for VL by polymerase chain reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and indirect immunofluorescence test. Kidney fragments were submitted to immunohistochemical reaction. Many morphological patterns of distribution of subendothelial granules were identified for IgG and IgM in glomerular capillaries: global, segmental, diffuse, or focal. Intensity of immunohistochemical reaction to IgG was not significantly different when comparing the symptomatic and the asymptomatic animal groups by Fisher's exact test. IgM reactions were significantly...

Sex-dependent differences in the activities of acetylsalicylic acid-esterases in mouse kidneys BJMBR
Benedito,M.A.C..
Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), the most used drug worldwide, is hydrolyzed to salicylic acid and acetate by esterases present in tissues of several species including humans. Sex differences in drug metabolism by rodent liver are documented in the literature. In this paper we report a difference in the activities of the esterases (ASA-esterase I and II) in the kidneys of male and female mice. In this species there is no difference between males and females in liver ASA-esterases (ASA-esterase I: males 38.5 ± 7.9 (N = 5) and females 31.6 ± 7.6 (N = 5) nmol of salicylic acid formed min-1 mg protein-1, P>0.05; ASA-esterase II: males 77.3 ± 17.4 (N = 5) and females 61.4 ± 15.1 (N = 5) nmol of salicylic acid formed min-1 mg protein-1, P>0.05)....

Tribulus terrestris Hydroalcoholic Extract Effect on Cisplatin-Induced Apoptosis in Mice Kidney International Journal of Morphology
Ghanbari,Ali; Zare,Fatemeh; Khazaei,Mozafar; Moradi,Mojtaba; Raoofi,Amir.
Cisplatin (EBEWE Pharma, Unterach, Austria) is an anti-cancer drug used in chemotherapy. One of the limiting major side effects of cisplatin is nephrotoxicity. Tribulus terrestris (TT) has been used as an synthetic or herbal protective agents for kidney disorders. The present study amid to investigate the Tribulus terrestris Hydroalcoholic extract effect on cisplatin-induced apoptosis in mice kidney. Male adult mice (n= 30) were divided into control group and 4 experimental groups (n= 6). Control group received saline, the first experimental group received cisplatin (5.5 mg/kg) and other three experimental groups received cisplatin (5.5 mg/kg) and different doses of hydroalcoholic extact of TT (100, 300 and 500 mg/kg i.p) respectively. The kidneys were...
